The Redland Bombers have finished the 2016 NEAFL season on a high note with a 53-point victory over the Canberra Demons at Tidbold Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Bombers opened the match up in the second quarter, with nine goals to two setting the platform for a 21.15 (141) to 12.16 (88) victory.
Redlands turned the tables on the Demons after they won an eight-point thriller last time they played at Tidbold Park, and also bounced back from two consecutive losses by over 100 points in the past fortnight.
Blake Grewar was outstanding through the midfield with 26 disposals, 14 clearances and 19 inside 50s.
Hayden Bertoli-Simmonds was another key instigator through the midfield, finishing with 25 disposals and six clearances.
Aaron Christensen and Luke Rogerson both booted five goals each.
Canberra star Jordan Harper was the Demons’ best player after amassing 38 disposals and two goals.
Meanwhile, the 2016 NEAFL Award Ceremony was held in Sydney on Sunday night, with Bertoli-Simmonds crowned the Rising Star.
The 21-year-old beat a high-quality field, which included former Collingwood rookie Michael Manteit and top draft prospects Jack Bowes and Brad Scheer, to be awarded the bright young talent in the league.
Grewar was named in the Team of the Year, and Rogerson won Goal of the Year for his match-winning effort against Sydney University in wet conditions at Tidbold Park.
Aspley midfielder Matt Payne became a two-time winner of the NEAFL MVP Award when he won by a single vote over Harper in a thrilling count.
