Dancers at the Allenby Dance Studio at Capalaba showed strong results at the recent Australian Teachers of Dance State and Australasian scholarship finals.
At the Australasian finals, held in Brisbane in July, Molly Givney, 16, of Cleveland took out the senior classical award and came fourth in senior jazz with Casey Kime, 17, of Alexandra Hills taking first in senior jazz and third in senior classical. Other place getters were Alicia Rogers (third in junior jazz and second in intermediate tap), Lauren Nichols (third in intermediate jazz, fourth in junior tap and fourth in intermediate classical), Emma Bryant (fourth in junior classical) and Huiran Ban (second insenior classical and fourth in intermediate tap).
Molly’s mother Adelle Givney said the scholarship would assist Molly who will take up a full time dance position in an elite dance program in Melbourne next year. Molly was also awarded the Senior Bursary at Bundaberg Festival of Dance, the Senior Contemporary award at Ipswich Eisteddfod, and then was named Redlands Eisteddfod Most Outstanding Senior Competitor. She also was in the final six (of 150) in the recent Moulin Rouge Auditions in Brisbane.
Huiran Ban was announced as the winner of the Senior Jazz Championship in Wynnum Manly Eisteddfod and Corie Janssen (who was injured and unable to participate in scholarships) was named winner of the Intermediate Jazz Championship and runner up in then intermediate Classical Championship for Wynnum Manly Eisteddfod. Sarah Nichols was named Most Promising Tap Dancer, 13 years and over.
Queensland competition results (held in May) saw firsts for Annalyse Privitera in mini jazz (and highly commended for sub junior classical), Alicia Rogers for junior jazz (and third in intermediate tap), Molly Givney for senior jazz (and third in senior classical) and Huiran Ban for intermediate jazz, senior classical and intermediate tap. Other winners were Charlotte West (fourth in mini jazz), Katie Boland (commended in mini jazz), Michaela Osmond (highly commended in sub junior jazz and in junior classical), Emmian Bryant (highly commended in sub junior jazz, highly commended in sub junior tap and second in junior classical), Danika Pearson (highly commended in junior jazz an fourth in intermediate classical), Lauren Nicols (fourth in intermediate jazz, second in junior tap and second in intermediate classical), Sarah Nichols (highly commended in intermediate jazz), Georgia Meredith (commended in intermediate jazz, highly commended in intermediate tap and highly commended in intermediate classical), Casey Kime (second in senior jazz and fourth in senior classical), Lainey Pearson (third in senior jazz), Summer Pitceathly (highly commended in sub junior classical), Molly Hawkings (commended in sub junior classical and highly commended in mini tap), Alicia Rogers (commended in junior classical), Jordan MacDonald (highly commended in mini jazz) and Taylor Bradic (commended in mini tap)
Teachers Debbie Holdstock (principal), Melissa West, Selina Holdstock and Tamara Pearson said dancers had shown that hard work, dedication and a love for what they do gave great results.
“Several of the students completed Year 12 this year, while continuing to dance, and completing final exams in Classical, Jazz and Tap,” Mrs Givney said.
