A COFFEE with a Cop and Road Safety Week event was held in Victoria Point on Friday.
The police, Crime Stoppers and the Department of Main Roads were among those giving out advice and information.
As part of their Road Safety Week message, Police Minister Bill Byrne and Road Policing Command Assistant Commissioner Mike Keating have reminded motorists not to drive impaired.
Minister Byrne said Road Safety Week gave Queenslanders the opportunity to think about and engage in conversations around road safety.
“We are encouraging you to speak up for road safety,” he said.
“Use this week to talk to loved ones, friends or colleagues about road safety and challenge those behaviours that lead to devastation on our roads.
“Too many Queenslanders know the enormous toll of fatal crashes on families and communities and we need to take a stand.”
Assistant Commissioner Keating said police and emergency services were in the community spreading the road safety message this week.
“Enforcement, our traditional role, needs to go alongside education,” he said.
“Our officers’ first-hand experience provides invaluable insight for the community.”
