ORMISTON couple Ronald and Beryl Impey will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on September 1.
The pair grew up and were married in Luton, Bedfordshire, England.
They were both baptised in the same church in which they were married.
Mr Impey said the couple came to Australia in 1954 when he was offered a contract teaching in Queensland.
"I stayed with the Education Department for 35 years and was transferred around the state,'' he said.
His first posting was at Beenleigh in the southeast and this was followed by teaching jobs and then appointments as principal at schools in Ayr, Cairns, Bamaga, Propserpine and Malanda, all in north Queensland.
Mrs Impey meantime did a fine job, raising the couple's four children.
Mr Impey said his wife was kept extremely busy, given the number of times the family moved home due to his job.
"She's been a very busy woman and did a great job handling our children,'' he said.
After retiring, the couple lived in the Whitsundays for 15 years.
Mr and Mrs Impey moved to the Redlands 12 years ago to be nearer their children, one of whom is at Wellington Point and a second at Mansfield.
The remaining two are based at Atherton and Mackay.
Mrs Impey said she had never meant to follow her children around but it was good to be near them and they were often able to help out with tasks.
Ron and Beryl live at Ormiston Heritage Village and will celebrate their anniversary with a party for family and friends.
The couple have 20 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
