THE Lions Club of Cleveland Challenge has recently elected Pauline Denisenko as president for the third time.
Recently celebrating its 15th birthday after being chartered on August 19, 2001, the club was formed to attract retired and semi-retired people over 50 years old.
Ms Denisenko said it was a lovely club and she was happy to be there to guide the ship.
Since it was formed the primary objective of the club was to care for the community.
“We mostly donate to the local community,” Ms Denisenko said.
Through a small army of volunteer knitters, knee rugs have been donated to residents of just about every local aged care and nursing centre in the Redlands.
Patients at the Redland Hospital’s dialysis and mental health units have also received rugs, while single bed blankets have been donated to teenagers who attended Lions Camp Duckadang and the Queensland Police initiative Project Booyah.
Over the years the club has also donated toys for Christmas, gifts and food hampers to families through the Maybanke domestic violence service, Redlands Child Safety Service Centre and the North Stradbroke Island Aboriginal and Islander Housing Co-operative.
The club has provided annual school bursaries to students at Cleveland State School, Cleveland District State High School and Moreton Institute of TAFE.
The club also holds social functions and is always looking for new members.
They are the only daytime club in the Redlands and meet in Cleveland on the first and third Monday of the month.
