Meals on Wheels Victoria Point and Redland Bay recognised their volunteers at a lunch at Victoria Point Bowls Club on Thursday.
Among the volunteers present was Ada Lee who was a founding member of the organisation in Victoria Point about 42 years ago.
Ms Lee said the eight people who started Meals on Wheels would cook in the kitchens at the Wellington Point organisation every weekday.
They would then transport the food to deliver in Victoria Point and nearby suburbs.
Now Ms Lee enjoys meals herself three days a week.
But she still continues to help cook and deliver, together with Pauline Hough who does the driving.
“I like the company of the ladies and meeting the old people when we deliver,” she said.
Barbara Chapman heard about Meals on Wheels from friends nearly 40 years ago and thought it was a good cause.
She was secretary for about 16 years and still helps to deliver twice a month.
“The service is a great help especially for people who would have no contact with the outside world that day,” she said.
Sylvie Day, a volunteer for over 20 years, said Meals on Wheels provided a worthy service for the community.
Meals on Wheels Victoria Point makes an average of about 70 meals a day and delivers food every day during the week in Victoria Point, Redland Bay, Thornlands, Mount Cotton and Sheldon.
They also deliver about 70 meals twice a week to Macleay, Russell, Coochiemudlo and Karragarra islands.
Anyone who needs meals or who would like to volunteer for Meals and Wheels Victoria Point and Redland Bay can phone the office on weekdays on 3207 7126.
