LIFESAVERS from Point Lookout Life Saving Club recently competed in the World Lifesaving Championships in the Netherlands.
Local lifesavers were among nearly 4000 lifesavers and officials from 434 clubs and 37 countries who lined up for 14 days of competition.
The members from the club on North Stradbroke Island were Tony Langenberg, John Hagan, Linda Hagan, Michael White and Michael Stone.
Langenberg came eighth in the 50-54 years beach sprint final and Linda Hagan seventh in the 45-49 years flags event.
John Hagan, Stone and Langenberg came sixth in the 50-69 years board relay.
John Brennan OAM officiated at the event as chief referee for the World InterClub Championships and deputy chief referee for the World Teams Championships.
He was also recognised at the event for his long service as a technical official at gold level by the International Life Saving Federation.
Hosted and organised by the federation, the World Lifesaving Championships are held every two years.
A total of 430 of the competitors were from Australia.
The youngest athlete in the championships was aged 14 and the eldest 85 years old.
The program included pool and ocean events, competitions across national teams, interclub teams, masters, surfboat teams and inflatable rescue boat teams.
