FOUR Redlands softball players have made the cut for the Open Women’s State Squad known as the Queensland Heat.
The four are Rebecca Chapman, of Redland Bay, Rebecca McEachern, of Birkdale, Tegan Trindle, of Cleveland, and Tamieka Whitefield, of Alexandra Hills.
The selection for Queensland’s pinnacle female squad follows closely behind the recent announcement by the International Olympic Committee that softball will be reinstated in the Olympic line-up for the 2020 Tokyo Games.
Selection for the 23-athlete squad is particularly special for McEachern, Trindle and Whitefield as its the first year they have been named as squad members at the state open level.
The four put on stand-out performances over the selection period at the national level and at the recent Open Women’s State Softball Championships.
The squad will train towards the 71st Australian Women’s National Championships in Blacktown, NSW in January.
The Queensland Heat are current national champions having claimed the 2016 title.
Australia’s Open Women’s Team, the Aussie Spirit, will be selected after the national championships.
