FAMILY and locals have honoured the memory of Redlands boy Matthew Stanley who died 10 years ago after a one punch attack at an 18th birthday party.
His father Paul and members of the Matthew Stanley Foundation have unveiled artwork at the Alexandra Hills Hotel.
Acting Mayor Wendy Boglary said the Matthew Stanley Foundation was an example of turning a horrible experience into an important message that had been heard across the nation.
“After losing his son due to an assault at Alexandra Hills in September 2006, Paul has dedicated his life to spreading this important message,’’ Cr Boglary said. “His strength is inspiring.
“I encourage all parents to sit down and speak with their kids about this difficult but important message. It may just save their lives.’’
For the past decade Matthew's father Paul and others from the foundation have worked to spread the message about stopping such violence by walking away and chilling out.
“You only have to look at the messages posted on the Matthew Stanley Foundation website to see what an impact this message has had on youngsters,’’ Cr Boglary said.
“It is an important message and one that carries a great deal of emotion.’’
