Redlands Tigers enjoyed some great wins last weekend which will hopefully show to opposing teams that we will be very competitive again this season.
1st Grade played Toombul in a two day game at home and unfortunately lost a close game, along with debutant Lachlan Honan who broke his collar bone while fielding. Chasing 238 runs Toombul lost seven wickets as they chased down the required runs. Josh Henderson toiled hard all day for the Tigers and finished with four wickets. Spinner Cameron Brimblecombe also bowled well taking two wickets.
2nd Grade played Toombul at Toombul and declared 9 for 320. They were able to bowl the opposition out for 215 thanks to a fine spell of bowling from Charles Mailli who took six wickets
3rd Grade playing at home scored 275 runs and easily accounted for Toombul who were all out for 155. Redlands batted again and thanks to a fine knock of 94 from James Catlow-Elliott ended the day on 4 for 182
4th Grade no 1 who scored 203 runs last week were also winners as they bowled out Toombul for 146 with Alex Ward taking four wickets.
4th Grade no 2 dismissed Norths for 225 and unfortunately fell 28 runs short of victory. Dylan Gray 42, Greg Thompson 37 and Matthew Martin 36 top scored for the Tigers.
5th Grade who bowled out Toombul for 186 last weekend were unable to take first innings points as they were dismissed for 128 runs. Khaleel Waqar top scored for the Tigers with 66 and Darren Wallis scored 30 runs.
6th Grade no 1 dismissed Toombul for 140 runs and came away with a good win against Toombul thanks to some fine batting from Taylor Cue 56 not out, Dominic Cassell 53 not out and Paul Bonney 51. Redlands declared at 5 for 207 and at stumps had taken a further four Toombul wickets.
6th Grade no 2, who took first innings points last weekend in their game against Sandgate Redcliffe, went a step further last Saturday by dismissing the opposition for 103, giving the mighty Tigers an outright win. Josh Kelly took five wickets and was well supported by Mitchell Jensen three and Mitch Read two.
Last Sunday Redlands 1st and 2nd Grade teams played one day matches against Sandgate Redcliffe and came away with a win and a loss. Jimmy Peirson was the star in 1st Grade scoring a brilliant century and in 2nd Grade Stewart Edgar hit the ground running after playing in the UK scoring 64 runs as the Tigers went down by one run.
Redlands U/16 Taverners also played at home on Sunday were defeated by a strong Gold Coast team. Jarvis Cleary top scored with 29 runs and Jonathan Kumar was the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets.
Redlands Cricket at Wood Lane, off Birkdale Road at Wellington Point will play host to the finals of the U/17 National Championships from next Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Spectators are most welcome to come along and watch the young guns in action.
