The Redlands Bocce Club has been classified by the Australian Bocce Federation as having the best facilities in Australia. The club is run from the Redland Sporting Club and hosts a number of national events, including the national championship held every June.
Secretary of the club Luz Van Hemmen said bocce was perfect for all ages and was played indoors.
“It’s a game that provides people the opportunity to have a social contact, develop physically and to gain self-confidence. The game is simple with its basic principle to roll a bocce ball closest to the target ball, which is called jack,” Ms Van Hemmen said.
“We want to move past the stereotype that this is a game for Italians. Any nationality can enjoy it,” she said.
