FAITH Lutheran students got the real deal at the school’s career’s night when paramedic Geoff Davies conducted interviews in his ambulance.
Mr Davies backed his ambulance up to the venue holding the event, so that students speaking with him about life as a paramedic could get a feel for the job.
Mr Davies said he could see that students valued the opportunity to speak with working professionals.
“The questions they asked reflected how keen they are to gain the correct information about their future,’’ Mr Davie said.
“I am looking forward to coming back next year.”
Faith Lutheran College director of development Catherine Williams said the evening was set up so each student could select three career paths and get the opportunity to speak to professionals in each of their chosen areas.
“The night is about getting as much information as possible so that students can make informed decisions about their education,’’ she said.
“For some the information lets them know that a career they thought was one thing, actually has a lot of areas they are not interested in.
“For many, the evening is aimed at making their future a little clearer and knowing where their hard work is taking them.’’
Year 11 student Sophie Irvin spoke to a Redland City Council marketing and events expert.
Ms Irvin said it was interesting speaking to someone who knew so much about the profession.
“She was helpful,’’ Ms Irvin said. “It gave me insight into the industry and what I could be dealing with day to day.
“She shared the reality of the job. It made me want to know more. It is great that we have the chance to speak with these professionals.”
Professions featured included photography, film, policing, engineering, nursing, electricial, teaching, health, science, journalism, veterinarian work, defence and computing.
A total of 42 careers were covered.
