The next Coffee with a Cop will be held Michel’s Patisserie, Alexandra Hills Shopping Centre on Friday, October 7 from 9.30am to 11.30am.
Officers from Capalaba Police Beat invite any members of the community to join them in this informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships, and enjoy a free cup of coffee.
The theme for this Coffee with a Cop will be Neighbourbood Watch with a view of getting more community members involved and the possibility of setting up new NHW areas across the local area. Neighbourhood Watch week runs from October 3 to 9.
Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the stations work in the Capalaba police division. Most contact police have with the public happens during emergencies or during emotional situations, situations that are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community.
Enjoying a cup of coffee will help cross that bridge and dispel uncertainty by some community members who may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street.
Event Organiser Senior Constable Samantha Schofield said she hoped that community members would feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know local officers as these interactions are the foundation of community partnerships. It is also a chance to talk with Neighbourhood Watch representatives, Crimestoppers and Volunteers in Policing about local issues and to offer information that may lead to the solving of a crime.
