Paula Boo and the Island Songbirds is among the local talent to perform at this year’s Island Vibe Festival.
Comprising Waveney Yasso and Georgia Corowa, the trio will play in the Coconut Lounge at the festival from 1.15pm to 2pm on Sunday, October 30.
The group varies in size and combination and has performed as duo, trio and in a band. Last year, 10 musicians recorded a song and video entitled I Believe. The video helped raise $5000 towards medication for Ms Boo’s brother-in-law in Canada.
Other locals to perform include Clara Durbidge who performs in the Coconut Lounge, from 3.15pm to 4pm on Saturday, October 29 and Kyle Bryant who performs from 5pm to 5.40pm in the Coconut Lounge on Friday, October 28. There will also be dances by the Yulu-Burri-Ba Dancers.
Local artists giving workshops at the festival include Craig Tapp on dance circles and sand art (Saturday 10am to noon), Trevor Petterson on screen printing (Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 4pm), Josh Walker and Uncle Kenny on traditional song and dance (Sunday, noon to 1pm) and spear throwing with Matty Burns (Sunday, 1.15pm to 2.15pm).
Ms Boo said she had performed at all 11 Island Vibes.
“There is so much talent on the island. It’s great to have this opportunity for locals to perform locally. And each year, you get to catch up with old friends and musicians. It’s a nice weekend,” she said.
Spanning three days, Island Vibe features more than 80 acts on four stages, a funky market village, food fair, cocktail bar, workshops and eco space and is designed to suit all ages.
