Hawthorn star Jarryd Roughead has returned to light training this week, while his teammates enjoy their end-of-season break.
Roughead underwent aggressive treatment for cancer that started as a melanoma on his lip, then spread to his lungs.
The 29-year-old said he started running again on Monday.
"Even though all the boys are away, it's good when you've got four or five fitness staff just looking after one athlete, you feel pretty important," Roughead said.
After winning three consecutive premierships, the Hawks bowed out in the second week of this year's finals.
Roughead remained an active part of the club during the season, mentoring younger players.
