REDLANDS MP Matt McEachan has joined Redland City councillor Mark Edwards, calling for a moratorium on parking fines at Weinam Creek until the new Redland Bay Marina bus station is complete.
Mr McEachan said he and Cr Edwards had been inundated with calls from commuters who were worried they would be fined while trying to find a park.
“We understand there has been a lot of confusion with regards to parking at the Redland Bay Marina bus station,” Mr McEachan said. “While this facility is under construction, I’m joining with Cr Edwards to ask for a freeze on parking fines.”
Cr Edwards said has written to council chief executive Bill Lyon, calling on staff to be more compassionate about illegal parking at the gateway to the Southern Moreton Bay Islands.
Mr Lyon has said that fines were issued on the basis of law and were not arbitrary. Enforcement included responding to complaints from residents about illegal parking.
The rebuild is expected to be completed by end of year.
