Hume
The explorations of Hamilton Hume represent a true account of early Australian history, according to author Robert Macklin.
Macklin launched his book Hamilton Hume Our Greatest Explorer at a literary lunch at the Grand View Hotel on September 30, stating that he was Australia’s first native born hero.
He said that Hume’s friendship with the aboriginal people helped him with his discoveries.
“Hume gives a true account. In school we are taught the British history of Australia. Hume lived for 80 years and his life story is of colonial times. You can see history through his eyes,” Macklin said.
Keen to be recognised for his contribution, Macklin said he hoped the man of the bush could now rest easy since the naming of the Hume Highway. He said the Murray River was originally named the Hume.
