She called him "Reggie"; his teammates knew him as "Gaz" and the rugby league world referred to him as "Puff", as in the Magic Dragon.
With Gasnier, the great Australian and St George centre dying in May 2014 and wife Maureen passing away on Friday afternoon, both partners in one of the game's most loving and enduring relationships have gone.
Maureen Gasnier, 77, mother of Kellie and Peter, wife of Reg for 52 years, died following a stroke suffered 10 days ago.
She had been living an active life following a stroke seven years ago and the unexpected recurrence has devastated her family and friends.
"She was a lovely lady," said John Riley, Gasnier's fellow St George and 1959 Kangaroos teammate.
Riley's wife Gwen was Maureen's bridesmaid at her wedding to Reg and Maureen was bridesmaid at the Riley nuptials.
Maureen grew up at Oatley: Reg at Renown. Riley in Ramsgate. These were the days when footballers played for the club where they lived and married the first girlfriend they seriously dated.
"I don't think Reg took out another girl, other than Maureen," Riley said.
Maureen went out with a good-natured fellow by the name of Kerry Newman. I met him once in the Kimberley where we were both on holidays.
He introduced himself to me as "Maureen Gasnier's first boyfriend."
Riley says, "I know Kerry quite well. He's lived on that since then."
Not that Newman has any pretensions. He told me at the time: "She dumped me as soon as Reg came along."
Such was the game of Gasnier, a six-times premiership player, three times Kangaroo, an Immortal and Team of the Century centre.
While Reg may have captivated the sport world with his heart-stopping swiftness and superb timing, Maureen was boss.
"She called him Reggie," recalls Riley. "Especially when he was in trouble. She pulled him into line."
Gasnier called her "the general manager of my operations" during his 20 years of medical attention, following nerve damage to his face.
Maureen played 18 holes of golf every week, including the day she suffered her recent stroke.
Sure, she had suffered occasional memory loss following her first stroke, scolding herself after arriving a day early for a lunch with one of the St George girls, saying, "I need a brain transplant."
She will, however, endure in the memory of others, with Riley saying, "My wife , John and Carol Raper ...we will all miss her terribly."
