Redland midfielder Blake Grewar has been rewarded for his outstanding season by taking out the Dowling Medal as the Bombers’ best-and-fairest player last month.
The 23-year-old became the first Redland junior to win the medal since Adam Mueller in 2008.
Grewar was one of the competition’s finest performers in 2016, recognised with NEAFL Team of the Year selection and finished in the top five of the NEAFL MVP voting. This is Grewar’s first Dowling Medal after being a close runner-up to Adelaide draftee Paul Hunter in his breakout season in 2014, where he also earned NEAFL Team of the Year selection.
Grewar will attend the AFL State Combine in Melbourne next month after averaging 30 disposals per game this year, where he also led the club in contested possessions, clearances, and inside 50s to add a Players’ Player award to his 2016 achievements.
Bertoli-Simmonds won the Thomas/Oxley Medal as the club’s Rising Star and Nick Weller was Best First Year Player.
