Wayne Bennett is expected to combine Brisbane's involvement in a scaled-down World Club Series with England's controversial pre-season training camp next year.
The Broncos have saved the WCS by agreeing to play Warrington on February 18 at Halliwell Jones Stadium after every other NRL side turned the Wolves down. The competition will involve just four teams next year, down from six in 2015 and 2016, with Wigan battling Cronulla for the world title.
"We have worked hard with the NRL to produce a series that will not only excite fans but one that also allows all clubs in the NRL to have a full pre-season," Super League general manager Mark Foster said.
"Cronulla and Brisbane have shown their commitment to doing this and the value that they place in taking part in the series and we are excited to welcome them to these shores in February."
But while the veteran mentor, who makes his debut as England coach this weekend in France, has spoken of his support for the concept for altruistic reasons there is likely to be a major fringe benefit.
Bennett's plan for a pre-season training camp for England was greeted with scepticism by Super League clubs and has resulted in the competition kick-off being altered.
By having the Broncos play in the World Club Series at Halliwell Jones Stadium, he can serve both his masters.
No sooner had the Australians touched down in Manchester on Thursday night than their coach Mal Meninga had declared Bennett "wants my job" – a reference to the Broncos coach unsuccessfully applying for the post after Bennett refused to make himself available full-time.
Bennett was also critical of Meninga's timing in naming his first team for the Anzac Test. The 66-year-old can expect further gibes from within the touring party, according to his Brisbane forward Sam Thaiday.
"I'm sure at some point I'll be sending Wayne a couple of texts to stir him up a little bit," Thaiday said in Manchester.
"I know that he'll be doing a good job with them, changing a few of their structures and trying to make them a little bit … a team that is a force to be reckoned with.
"He falls asleep a lot. We'll see if they can learn some things off him.
"He's a pretty happy-go-lucky guy. As long as they don't take him too seriously. He likes a joke and a laugh. If they know that and understand it then he'll be fine. The English humour, he'll be great."
Thaiday was outspoken in his support of Meninga, however.
"Mal's been fantastic since he's come on board as a coach," Thaiday said.
"He's been trying to change a lot of things culturally within our team, really trying to remember the past, pay respect to those past players and really honour the current and new players as well. I think Mal has a huge respect from the players throughout the group.
"A lot of the players loved watching Mal as young kids. A lot of the kids in the team weren't even born when Mal was playing.
"Hopefully we can set things up again to make Australia No.1 again.
"We always had a bit of a winning edge but I think what Mal's brought into this team and the structures that he wants to bring in; we'll be a a team that's remembered and a force to be reckoned with."
Meninga is aware a series win would lift Australia to the top of the Rugby League International Federation's relatively new world rankings.
But Thaiday said: "If we want to be a successful team going forward, we've got to string a couple of series wins together.
"The Four Nations is this year and the World Cup is next year and hopefully I'm still around next year and get a chance and an opportunity to play in another World Cup."
Meninga said he did not think the raids on the offices of several Sydney-based player agents would distract his players.
Discussing the battle for wing spots, he said Cronulla's Valentine Holmes had the inside running for the big matches towards the end of the tournament but added: "Josh Mansour gets his chance as well.
"You've got to remember Valentine Holmes played right winger the last few years for the club," Meninga said. "He can play either side of the park so if Josh gets off to a really good start against Scotland, puts some pressure on the left wing spot, we've certainly got Valentine putting pressure on both, him and Blake Ferguson."
