After the rain and severe winds last weekend the Redlands boys came out fired up to put some excellent results on the board. Both First and Second Grade recorded outright wins, with Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Grade no 2 also recording strong wins.
Redlands successfully defended the Mark Gaskell Shield winning four games to three against Wynnum Manly as the two clubs competed for the annual trophy in the battle of the bayside clubs.
Four Redlands players recorded centuries. Sohi Shojaei scored 175 runs from 139 balls to lead 4th Grade to an exciting victory. Jacob Bowell played a lone hand in 4th Grade as he scored 106 runs. Jake Goodwin 104, who scored 90 of his runs in boundaries and Khaleel Waqar 103 lead 5th Grade to victory.
1st Grade scored a great outright victory against Wynnum Manly. Tigers skipper Jimmy Peirson led his side from the front top scoring for Redlands in both innings. He was well supported by his bowlers especially Josh Henderson and Jon Stimpson. With Marnus Labuschagne and Sam Heazlett missing for Redlands as they were playing for the Qld Bulls, this was a great win.
2nd Grade also scored outright points as they cut through the Wynnum Manly batsmen with ease dismissing them in their second innings for 77 runs. The Redlands bowlers were on top again with Craig Weier, Lenny Watt and James Ryan all contributing with valuable wickets.
3rd Grade went down to Wynnum Manly at home. In what should have been a win for Redlands after dismissing the opposition for 166, our batsmen found the going a bit tough and were all out for 120. The tail enders, especially Robert Ballarino who top scored with 35 runs, put up a good fight at the end but unfortunately the Tigers fell short of the required total.
4th Grade no 1 team dismissed Wynnum Manly for 257 on day two with Declan Mulheran and Ben Cole taking three wickets each. The Redlands boys chased that total down just before stumps were called. The highlight of this game was the brilliant 175 not out off 139 balls scored by Sohi Shojaei. He saved the day for the Tigers with one of the best innings seen by both teams in a long time.
4th Grade no 2 team played Toombul and dismissed the opposition for 183 runs. Lincoln Rosiak and Andrew Barrie shared the bowling honours with three wickets each. Jacob Bowell led the run chase with a great knock of 106 runs but his team mates were unable to offer much support as Redlands were dismissed for 181, three runs short of a victory.
5th Grade played Wynnum Manly at home and dismissed the visitors for 165 runs with Jake Goodwin and Dhirajkumar Rajakumar both taking three wickets. Then in amazing batting display, Jake Goodwin scored 104 runs, with 90 of those runs coming from boundaries and Khaleel Waqar, playing a very patient innings, finished on 103 not out. A great win for the Tigers.
6th Grade no 1 team played Wynnum Manly at Boundary Street and were dismissed for 104 runs on day one. Wynnum Manly declared seven down for 206 on day two and sent the Redlands boys back in again. At stumps Redlands were 5 for 39.
6th Grade no 2 dismissed Souths for 87 on day one and chased that score down easily on day two with Will Read top scoring with 92 runs. Redlands declared at 7 for 165 and at the end of play Souths were all out for 130 with Sean Lloyd taking five wickets and Ben Lockwood four, giving him seven wickets for the game.
Redlands U/16 Taverners played Wynnum Manly at Tingalpa on Sunday and unfortunately could not chase down the required 224 runs needed for a win. Lachlan Graham scored 44 runs and next best was Sam Winchester with 23 runs. Best of the bowlers for Redlands were Jacob Apted, Jonathan Kumar and Will Morris who each took two wickets. Well done to coach Dan Cummins and all the young Tigers who represented Redlands this season. The club looks forward to working with you on your cricket pathway.
Redlands Women’s 2nd Grade team had a bye this weekend and play a T20 game at home on Sunday
