Queensland government departments have spent thousands of dollars on hospitality and functions this year, such as workshops, award ceremonies and community barbecues.
Some were near the $1 million mark, while others were relatively frugal during the 2015-16 financial year.
The Queensland Police Service spent $921,621 on hospitality and official functions in 2015-16.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spent $733,512 on functions and events in the past financial year, while Queensland Corrective Services' bill was $93,718 for hospitality and official functions.
In his response to a question on notice, Police, Fire and Emergency Services and Corrective Services Minister Mark Ryan said the QPS managed and coordinated several functions and events, including official visits, recruit induction parades and award ceremonies.
He said the QFES and QCS managed and coordinated numerous functions and events, "including graduation ceremonies, award ceremonies and community engagement activities".
Queensland Treasury spent $148,000 on hospitality and official functions, including on activities associated with the state budget, community engagement activities, employment forums and workplace health and safety awareness.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Department spent $42,500 on hospital and event expenses, including on National Reconciliation Week, NAIDOC Week, workshops and forums.
The Department of Justice and Attorney-General, excluding QCS, spent $120,400 on hospitality and official functions.
"In any given year, the Department of Justice and Attorney-General manages and coordinates numerous functions and events including swearing in ceremonies for judicial officers, awards ceremonies and promotional events such as Law Week," Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath wrote.
The Department of Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning spent $11,016.72 on hospitality and official functions.
Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said the department coordinated events to support its work with bodies such as the Planning Institute of Australia, and events were also held to support activities associated with land sales and management of priority development areas by Economic Development Queensland.
"These include areas such as Clinton and Tannum Sands in Gladstone," she wrote.
The Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services spent $204,152 on functions and events, which "in any given year" includes award ceremonies, community barbecues and promotional events.
The Environment and Heritage Protection Department spent $70,680 on conferences, workshops and related catering.
The National Parks, Sport and Racing Department spent $133,540 on conferences, workshops and related catering.
Environment Minister Steven Miles said there was not a specific line item in the financial statements of the two departments for hospitality and official events.
But Dr Miles said he had asked the directors-general of the two departments whether they would be able to record the expenditure separately in the future.
