SOROPTIMIST International Bayside has celebrated 22 years of Women’s Voices, a tribute to the achievement of women in the local area.
At the event, three guest speakers reflected on their personal perceptions, experiences and accomplishments.
Each woman had a special story to tell.
Becky Thomson and Merle Dippel, from the Winnam Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Co-operative, spoke about the humble beginnings of the co-operative which has grown to be a highly successful organisation operating in Wynnum.
Chantel Sustic, the YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament Member for Redlands and advocate for better access for those with disabilities, challenged the audience to think differently about the notion of disabilities.
The third speaker, Liz Anderson, senior educational psychologist and developmental psychologist (child and adolescent specialist), reflected on her journey and determination to use her skills and strengths to make a difference in the lives of others in the local community.
A Soroptimist spokeswoman Catherine Heiner said while each speaker had a completely different story to tell, the common thread through the three tales was the tenacity of women to get the job done and the inherent courage they possessed to dare to dream.
