THE management and leadership of community radio station Bay-FM is in limbo, with allegations made that the new president and secretary were not members at the time of their election.
James Harling was voted in as president in October after a group called Friends of Bay-FM made a play for leadership positions and sought change in the way the station operated.
Mr Harling was not part of the Friends group.
It is understood that during discussion regarding Mr Harling’s status at the station, he was asked to leave the premises and refused, with police having to be called.
Mr Harling then froze the station’s bank account.
When asked about the events, Mr Harling said it was correct that his membership had been questioned and that he had frozen the bank account but declined to respond in detail, pending legal advice.
“I’ve spoken to members who maybe financially affected and they have all agreed to wait until the dispute is resolved,’’ Mr Harling said. “No one will suffer any financial hardship.’’
He said he did not yet know if an extraordinary general meeting would be called to resolve issues.
The station is still broadcasting but a member who declined to be identified said problems would arise if anything broke down for which money was needed for repairs.
It is understood the station committee also has sought legal advice.
