CHILDREN aged six to 10 can have a go at softball in Ormiston on January 18 and 20.
Softball Queensland are holding two afternoon clinics for juniors to try their hand at fun softball-related games and skills.
Encouraging children to head onto the field, Redlands player Adele Watson said the game is very social and family-oriented.
She plays the sport every Sunday along with her three daughters – who are all competing in national championships this month – and her husband Damian.
In September Ms Watson played together in the same team as her daughters Dakota and Shania at the Open Women’s State Championship.
She said the girls have learned good throwing and hitting skills and players have a good work ethic.
“A lot of friendships are made,” she said.
With women in the sixties and seventies still playing in the masters’ teams, Ms Watson said it was a sport that people could continue to play into their adulthood.
The U19 Men’s National Championship and the U15 Boy’s Regional Championships will be taking place on the same days as the clinics.
This will give families the opportunity to watch some of Queensland’s best male junior players competed against their interstate counterparts before the clinics.
The clinics will be held on Diamond 5 at Redlands Softball Association in Sturgeon Street, Ormiston from 2pm to 4pm on January 18 and 20.
The cost for each clinic is $25 per child.
