While his Brisbane Heat team mates were returning from their recent game in Perth, Marnus Labuschagne was on the Gold Coast scoring runs for Redlands Tigers 1st Grade. Labuschagne scored his highest total in the Premier competition, 195 not out off 219 deliveries. He scored 20 fours and one six and batted for 318 minutes. What a great effort.
Playing a two-day game against the Gold Coast, Redlands were dismissed for 367 with Nick Hurford 52, Stuart Edgar 33 and Michael Herdman 29 all adding valuable runs. Gold Coast will bat next Saturday and hopefully the Redlands bowlers can get through their batting line to enable a victory on the back of Labuschagne’s innings.
2nd Grade are also playing a two-day game against Gold Coast at home and unfortunately were let down by some poor batting performances. They were all out for 72 with Charles Mailli top scoring with 17 runs. At stumps on day one Gold Coast were 7 down for 177 with Mailli having a good day taking six of the seven wickets to fall. Hopefully the Tigers boys can get back into the game this Saturday.
The other grades played one-day matches and Redlands came away with wins in third and sixth grade no 1.
3rd Grade played at Ipswich and had a convincing 140 run victory with Jason Grovenor 52 not out, Jamie Stuart 36 and Sohi Shojaei 31 batting well. Luke Haegel then took control with the ball, taking five wickets and Josh Thompson with two as Ipswich were dismissed for 52 runs.
4th Grade no 1 team played Wests at home and unfortunately could not run down the total of 227 set by Wests. Michael McEwan top scored for Redlands with 37 and Jordan Crick 20 as the home team was dismissed for 152 runs. Declan Mulheran and Alex Ward took the only two wickets to fall for Wests.
4th Grade no 2 team could not chase down Uni’s score of 185 but Greg Thompson 67, Jacob Bowell 31 and Craig Holdsworth 22 all contributed as Redlands went down by nine runs. Bowell was the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets.
5th Grade played Souths at home and unfortunately were dismissed for 98 with the main run scorers being Henry Long 27, Dan Mathieson 18, Pearce Anderson 14 and Zac Dale 12. Souths chased down the required runs for the loss of only two wickets.
6th Grade no 1 and 2 teams played each other at home on Peter Burge Oval on Sunday and the no 1 team got up in a last ball thriller. The no 2 team batted first and scored 194 thanks to some nice hitting from Will Read 68, Mitchell Jensen 30 and Jason Lau 28. The main wicket taker for the no 1 team was Scott Butters who took three for 35. The no 1 team made a game of it by scoring the winning runs on the last ball of the 20th over. Taylor Cue top scored with 35 runs and Brenton Glancy was next best with 33 runs. The best of the bowlers for the no 2 team was Jack Patterson and Jensen who each took three wickets.
Redlands Women’s 2nd Grade team played a one-day game at home on Sunday against Ipswich/Logan. Redlands did well to dismiss the opposition for 126 with Clodagh Ryall and Sarah Lockhart taking three wickets each. Unfortunately Redlands did not perform well with the bat and were dismissed for 78. Evie Massingham 14 and Jo Friske 13 were the only ones to reach double figures.
