On the back of a superb innings of 195 runs from Marnus Labuschagne last Saturday, Redlands First Grade were able to record a convincing win on day two against the Gold Coast. Chasing 367 for victory the Dolphins were dismissed for 166 with Ryan LeLoux and Michael Herdman taking three wickets each. Jon Stimpson also had the amazing bowling figures of 7 overs, 6 maidens, one wicket for one run.
2nd Grade lost their game outright to the Gold Coast. Redlands were sent in at the start of day two as the Gold Coast declared their innings at 7 for 177, a lead of 105 runs on the first innings. Unfortunately the Redlands boys did not bat well enough in their second innings and were dismissed for 194. Craig Weier top scored with 51 runs and the next best was Charles Mailli 29 and Jason Grosvenor 24. Gold Coast required 92 runs for the outright win and lost only one wicket in achieving the win.
The other grades played one-day 40 over matches and the two Redlands Fourth Grade teams were the only winners.
Third Grade, who won in convincing fashion last week, were returned to earth on Saturday as they were bowled out for 77 runs. Josh Thompson top scored with 21 and next best was Michael Dwyer with 15 runs. Gold Coast chased down the required runs for the loss of two wickets.
4th Grade no 1 team had a close game at home as they chased down the required runs in the last over of the day. Rory Smith top scored with 73 and Jessie Burns put on 35 runs as Redlands scored 8 for 180 chasing Gold Coast’s score of 177 runs. The pick of the bowlers for the Tigers were Lance Parsons and Declan Mulheran who each took two wickets.
4th Grade no 2 team also recorded a good win. Having restricted Valleys’ total to 159 runs thanks to Jacob Apted who took three wickets and Jake Richards and Joshua Fraser two each, Redlands then went on the attack with Craig Holdsworth scoring 92 runs and Joshua Fraser 44. Redlands were two down for 160 runs in the 37th over as they recorded a very handy win.
5th Grade scored 155 runs against Norths with Uwan Porage scoring 41, Zac Dale 20 and Khaleel Wagar 18. Unfortunately, Norths passed the Tigers’ total at eight down for 158. Pearce Anderson took four wickets and Darren Wallis and Brandon James took two each.
6th Grade no 1 played Valleys at home on Sunday and the game was initially restricted to 28 overs per innings due to the wet weather. Valleys won the toss and batted first scoring 8 for 137 with Jay Kildey taking three wickets and Brenton Glancy two. The rain interfered with the Redlands innings and under the Duckworth Lewis system they had to score 82 runs off 15 overs to take the points. They finished on 9 down for 54 runs, falling 28 runs short. Scott Butters scored 16 and Jason Hutchinson was 15 not out.
6th Grade no 2 played Toombul at home on the Ron Field oval and put on 180 runs from their 40 overs with Jason Lau scoring 63 and Aidan Bryant 41. However, Toombul were eight down for 187 at the end of play. Aidan Bryant had a good game as he also took three wickets and Sean Lloyd took two.
The Redlands Women’s 2nd Grade team played a one-day game against Wests at Graceville. In another rain affected game, Redlands scored 9 for 151 with Clodagh Ryall scoring 36, Evie Massingham 23 and Kate McDonald 22. Wests needed to score nearly four runs per over under the Duckworth Lewis system to match Redlands’ revised total but could only put on 45 runs for the loss of six wickets. Delyse Laycock, 3 for 11, and Sarah Lockhart, 2 for 7, bowled well with both just missing out on a hat trick. Redlands won by 38 runs.
