A MODEL of the Cleveland lighthouse has been restored and returned to its home at the Redland Museum.
Staff at the museum and members of the Cleveland Uniting Church Men’s Shed worked together to save the model, which had fallen into disrepair over the years.
With the work completed in December, the model featured in the church’s annual Christmas light display.
Last week Wednesday the restorers returned the model, stopping on the way to photograph it next to the original.
Built in the 1980s, the model featured in the Strawberry Festival, the predecessor to Redfest, before putting put into storage.
Over the restoration we’ve pulled it apart and put it back together, replacing about 50 per cent of the timber work.

Shed member Rod Macdonald said it was a labour of love for the restorers.
“When we first got it, we took it down to the shed and when it was removed from the trailer it collapsed by about 18 inches,” he said.
“It was really only built to last a few years being made out of non-marine plywood. Over the restoration we’ve pulled it apart and put it back together, replacing about 50 per cent of the timber work.”
