Gallery members have been busy over the holidays working on new artwork and also rolling up their sleeves cleaning the beautiful old buildings, completing some much-needed maintenance. Our calendar for 2017 is filling fast with members planning their joint or solo exhibitions.
We start the year off with an “all member” exhibition when we open on the January 20 and then members Katia and Mallisa J will feature for the month of February.
For 20 years Katia Strounina has worked in science but has always had a passion for art. Since picking up her brushes a few years ago she has studied under numerous artists through workshops and classes. Her paintings explore the vast wilderness and beauty of the world and she aims to reveal the intricate interplay of shape and colour, past and future, dream and reality presented to us through nature’s forces.
Jewellery artist Mallissa J creates wearable art pieces using an eclectic mix of jewellery-making techniques – beadweaving, bead embroidery, wireworking, polymer clay and metal work. She loves the challenge of creating all components of jewellery from scratch and many of her designs contain handmade components and quality repurposed elements.
Join us for wine and nibbles, 6.30pm - 8.30pm on Saturday February 4 for opening night. The Old School House Gallery, Shore Street North, Cleveland, is open 9.30am to 4.30pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
