A double to new Japanese signing Manabu Ishimoto saw Redlands United FC secure their first win in the Kappa Silver Boot competition against SWQ Thunder.
The pre-season tournament hosted by Lions FC started last Tuesday but group D, where Redlands was drawn alongside SWQ Thunder, Lions FC and Capalaba FC played their first game on Sunday evening.
Redlands and Thunder started their match slowly, with hardly any chances between the two in the first 45 minutes but after coming back from half-time the game became livelier.
After the hour mark, Ishimoto was brought down in the box and calmly converted his penalty but not without Thunder goalkeeper Luke Borean getting a hand to it.
It was only eight minutes later when Ishimoto again slotted the ball into the back of the net from the near post.
Redlands had majority of the possession and control throughout the game.
In the other game, Lions FC won comfortably against Capalaba FC to finish in top position on goal difference in the group after the first round of games.
All games are held at Lions Stadium and the entrance fee has been waived since renovations at the club are still under way.
Redlands United FC will take on Lions FC in the next round of matches on Sunday January 29 at 7pm.
