PATRONS grinned from ear-to-ear when the mud crab races began at the Redland Bay Hotel.
The Australia Day fun was all to raise money for NRL legend Dale Shearer’s Shearer Tackles Cancer campaign.
About $800 was raised for the cause – it was all thanks to those who placed bids on the hard-shelled critters in the three races on the day.
Mr Shearer, who also hosted piglet races as part of his fundraising efforts at the Grass Roots Bull Riding event on Saturday, January 21, said it was the first time he had raced crabs for his cause. “They were good,” he said.
Money was also generated through the sale of t-shirts and hats which were provided by Bartons Motor Group and signed by Mr Shearer.
Mr Shearer said he was grateful to the Redland Bay Hotel and all those who had helped him to raise money.
