POINT Lookout surf lifesavers won five medals – one gold, one silver and three bronze – at the Queensland State Youth Championships at Hervey Bay on the weekend.
Riley Schilling took home a gold in the under 14 two kilometre beach run, while his younger brother Sol Shilling won silver in the under 12 board race.
Callum Brennan won bronze medals in the under 13 male one kilometre beach run and the under 13 male surf race.
Fraser Toon collected a bronze medal in the under 14 male sprint event.
Point Lookout finished in 18th position at the event.
Team manager Matthew Robinson said it was the largest contingent of nippers the club had taken to a carnival that he could remember.
“We have had an excellent time,” he said.
“We travel as a team, stay together as a team and really make a great bond throughout the event.
“I think that strategy really contributes to the performance of the kids and they have done extremely well.”
He said the nippers had been doing flat water training at Raby Bay in the lead-up to the event, which had paid off.
Robinson said first-time nippers who competed at the competition were blown away by the scale of the event, but impressed with how it was run and what they got out of it.
“Due to our commitment at creating a team environment, we celebrate together, commiserate together and stand behind each other.
“Even the parents are on board, we have a job roster and everyone plays a part. That is what is so special and unique about belonging to Point Lookout,” Robinson said.
