PRE-SCHOOL children are jumping, bouncing, climbing and swinging their way around the YMCA Victoria Point Gymnastics Centre at the club’s new Gym Play session.
Launched last week, the class enables under five year olds to freely explore the gymnastics stadium in a non-structured session.
A foam pit, tumble trampoline and regular gymnastics equipment are available for the children to play on.
Gym Play co-ordinator Lou McKenzie said education and research had found that children learn best through exploring and discovering their abilities through physical activity.
“Gym Play provides a fun, safe, yet challenging environment for young ones to explore, think, create, construct and solve problems with their own bodies,” she said.
Ms McKenzie said the program had been very popular since it started.
“It’s a great stepping stone into our Kinder Gym program which offers a little more structure, movement to dance and music, and basic gymnastics skills.”
Gym Play is held every Wednesday from 10am to 11am and is suitable for young children who are walking and up to the age of five.
Sessions cost $5 each and no bookings are required.
