Reigning PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Champions Redlands United came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw in their season opener against Sunshine Coast FC Fire.
The gusting winds up at the Sunshine Coast Stadium hindered both sides as they found it difficult to play balls in the air.
The Fire started the game lively and made the most of their early domination as a shot from outside the 18-yard box forced Redlands goalkeeper Denver Crickmore to make a save.
Not long after, Fire played a great cut back ball into the box for new signee Damien Kallis who put it into the back of the net with ease.
Kallis continued causing havoc for Redlands, as he was able to pick up balls played to him by teammates Shoichi Koshimizu and Jez Lofthouse.
The goal against Redlands was all they needed to dig their heels in and turn the game around, by being able to retain possession and have chances in front of goal.
Crickmore was kept busy at the other end of the field as Fire continued to play balls into the box but had no real chances since their opener.
Redlands made the most of a Sunshine Coast mistake as they failed to track Alistair Davis who came through after a shot from Lincoln Rule was deflected by the Fire goalkeeper.
Davis beat the goalkeeper at the near post to make the scores level half way through the first half.
The rest of the half was spent in the middle of the field as neither side managed to have a clear chance in front of the goal.
The start of the second half was scrappy but Redlands dominated in the front third, looking most likely to score while their defence was solid.
It took him a while to find his feet in the game but once he did, Feli Sheriff was able to make great passes and have chances on the goal.
Redlands favourite Graham Fyfe came on and made an impact, as he almost lobbed the ball over the Fire goalkeeper from halfway but the wind carried it out.
At the other end, Crickmore pulled out a wonderful save to deny Kallis after his shot from outside the box was put out for a corner.
Rule looked as though he had put Redlands ahead as the wind carried his ball into the goal but the referee called a free kick for a foul on the goalkeeper.
Again, it looked like Redlands would seal the game but goal scorer Davis skyrocketed the ball over the crossbar.
Redlands United FC face Olympic FC at home on Friday March 3 from 7pm.
