THE Redlands BMX track in Capalaba has a world-standard starting system with the installation of a new gate.
The gate was made possible through Queensland government funding of $68,000.
Redlands BMX Club president Darren Gillam said the start gate would play an important role in developing the skills of local riders from five-year-old sprockets through to elite riders.
“Our new gate will allow riders and athletes to train and develop their skills on an International Cycling Union world standard starting system,” he said.
“… our pro and junior riders regularly travel to state, national and world titles each year where these systems are in place.
“I’m proud to say they now have a starting gate system of a world title standard to train from.”
The gate was opened recently by Capalaba MP Don Brown, on behalf of Sport Minister Mick de Brenni.
Mr Gillam said the club was lucky and grateful for the support of a generous group of businesses, supporters and committee members who had worked hard for a year to get the project completed.
