HELP is available for young women who are struggling to learn skills to enable them to get a job.
Redlands Centre for Women in Cleveland are offering a job readiness program for women aged between 15 and 24.
Project co-ordinator Kerri Long said the course would help participants gain confidence and skills to get a job or sign up to study.
“We want to help those young women who, for a variety of personal reasons, may be struggling to get into the workforce or further education,” she said.
“Our aim is for them to have more confidence, have some of the skills needed and have connections.
“We are helping them to develop the skills they need to pursue employment or study.”
Ms Long said the program came about through the young mother’s group run by the Redlands Centre for Women.
The #In2Work program includes one and one support to address needs, including provision of child care, and small group sessions for eight weeks.
The program is funded under the state government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work Initiative.
The centre has partnered with networking groups, employers and training providers to provide the program.
Participants will be provided with a set of interview clothes, will conduct mock job interviews and learn to prepare a resume.
There will also be workplace visits, and sessions on personal development and goal setting.
Ms Long said there were government incentives for employers who gave jobs to people who had completed the course.
The program will run on Thursdays from 1pm to 4pm from April 20 at the centre’s premises at 27 Waterloo Street, Cleveland.
A second course will start in July.
Bookings are essential by April 6.
