Both Redlands teams have bowed out of the title race following a rain drenched semi-final weekend which saw both games end in a draw.
Having qualified for the finals in fourth position, Redlands required first-innings points to progress to the grand final and keep their premiership hopes alive.
But the inclement weather hung around for several hours on Sunday, leaving both fourth grade and sixth grade limited time to win their respective games.
Fourth Grade won the toss and bowled first against the ladder leaders Valleys away from home. At the conclusion of day one, Redlands had the opposition nine down for 161 thanks to a pair of three-wicket hauls from Jake Goodwin and Jacob Apted. Jason Hill was also influential for the tigers, taking two wickets.
Unfortunately, the Tigers were unable to capitalise on their strong position, as persistent rain made sure only a few overs were possible on the second day.
Redlands bowled Valleys out for 190 when play resumed before the Tigers batsmen were given the impossible task of chasing the runs required for victory in 14 overs. Rain eventually took its toll as the game ended in a draw, seeing fourth grade number two finish a successful season in fourth place.
Sixth grade encountered similar circumstances in their clash with arch rivals Wynnum-Manly. After a dominant first day, which saw Redlands dismiss the Seagulls for 164 before the batsmen put on 47 for the loss of one wicket, the rain made its way to the bayside to spoil the Tigers’ party and wash out the majority of the final day’s play.
James Cullen led the way with the ball for Redlands, taking four wickets in partnership with Tom Knight who claimed another three scalps to add to his impressive season tally.
When wet weather brought an end to the game, the Tigers were 6/93, 71 runs behind Wynnum’s first innings total. Jason Hutchinson once again provided the all important impetus in the Tigers chase, scoring an unbeaten 45.
The semi-final draw sees sixth grade number one finish in fourth place.
Congratulations to all Redlands teams and players on another successful season.
