NEARLY 1000 children and young people on the bayside have been supported to take part in sport through the latest round of the Get Started Vouchers program.
The state government initiative provides up to $150 to help eligible children cover the cost of membership or participation fees to kick-start their involvement in a sport or recreation club.
Capalaba MP Don Brown said 962 vouchers had been issued across the bayside through round nine of the program.
“This round has seen the fastest allocation of vouchers in the history of the program, which just shows how keen families are to get their kids active in local sports,” Mr Brown said.
“We’ve never seen them fly out the door so quickly. In fact the demand has been so high, we gave two further boosts in funding for the program, with the result that over 40,000 vouchers have been issued across Queensland.”
Lytton MP Joan Pease said 95 clubs, providing a range of activities, had registered for the program on the bayside.
“Families with vouchers have until May 12, 2017 to present the vouchers to a club, with clubs able to redeem until May 26, 2017,” she said.
Sport Minister Mick de Brenni said the program aimed to help Queensland children whose families could least afford the cost to join a sport or recreation club.
Round 10 of Get Started Vouchers will open on July 12, 2017.
