Redlands Rugby got off to a winning start for the 2017 season on Saturday, with both the men’s and ladies’ teams taking to the field for their first home games of the season
The ladies were up against Helensvale.
Following a loss to Sunnybank the previous week the ladies team were keen to get a win.
Fielding a full strength team the ladies showed their increasing skill levels as they played to a well structured game plan.
With the new players becoming increasing confident, Katelyn Sherrin playing on the wing in her first full season got over for her first try of the season to the delight of the crowd and fellow teammates.
In an even contest the result could have gone either way.
However with the Redlands forwards dominating in the second half the ladies scored a pleasing 22-14 win.
The men’s team were up against Wynnum in a trial match.
The coaching staff were interested in playing different combinations as we head towards the start of the season.
In a physical encounter neither team gave an inch. However with a numerical players advantage the Redlands team came away with the win.
It was great to see the return of a number of players from last year and they are encouraged to continue to make training on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
