RICArts sincerely thanks the community of Russell, adjoining islands and Redlands, who in great numbers showed their support of the arts at the opening of the farm art house and gallery at the Kennedy Farm House on March 12.
The ceremony was performed by Councillor Mark Edwards, who has been supportive of all RICArts endeavours since his time in office, which demonstrates his interest in the arts.
The opening of the farm art house and gallery coincided with the Redland City Council Girt by Sea art and sculpture competition and exhibition with a generous overall $90,000 in prize money.
From this there was a total of $20,000 in acquisition prizes in the arts section – a new and very welcome incentive for island artists.
The farm house was transformed into an arts showcase under the guidance of resident artist Abramo Papp.
Gallery one, two and three came to life with correct gallery hangings – and prize winning art, as it turned out – with signage and an artists’ resume book for visitors’ referral.
There were expressions of interest in coming workshops, an attendance book and a comments book for visitors, with all of the comments being positive and complimentary.
RICArts is now in operation with Art on Tuesday, Mosaic on Thursday, and many upcoming workshops that have been planned and art courses from Abramo Papp.
