A GUIDE to help schools address road safety issues that showcases Redland Bay State School is set to be rolled out across the state.
The No Excuses School Road Safety Guide was produced by Redland City Council with a grant from the Queensland government.
Launching the guide at Redland Bay State School, mayor Karen Williams said it highlighted the most common road safety issues experienced around schools.
“Nothing is more important than the safety of our children, wherever they are,” Cr Williams said.
“There is so much to fit into each day that it’s easy to miss that ‘40’ sign when approaching a school zone and tempting to stay that little bit longer in a two-minute zone waiting for our children to arrive.
“That’s why the No Excuses guide has been developed as a resource for schools, to help empower them to undertake tangible and practical actions to address their individual circumstances.”
Cr Williams said the guide would be distributed to all Redlands schools and she understood the Transport Department was keen to use it as a model to be rolled out throughout Queensland schools.
“We are hoping this message gets out; there are no excuses not to understand school road safety in your area.”
Cr Williams said the guide was for schools and included information that could be communicated to parents.
Attending on behalf of Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey, Capalaba MP Don Brown said schools could tailor the information in the guide to their needs.
He said it was important for the guide to be rolled out across the state.
“Getting (children) to and from school shouldn’t be a worry for parents or students,” he said.
