A FORMER professional tennis player has come home to the Redlands after about 15 years on the international circuit.
Ryan Agar has competed and trained with players including Nick Kyrgios, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Matthew Barton and Stan Wawrinka.
Having grown up in Alexandra Hills, Agar attending Vienna Woods State School and Redlands College, before finishing schooling through TAFE to give him more time for tennis.
Agar was in the top 30 in Australia for seven years and reached a career high Association of Tennis Professionals ranking of 205 in the world.
Agar was based in Sydney and Melbourne for most of his professional career, travelling regularly overseas to compete.
“I was always in transit,” he said of his time on the international circuit.
“I was never in one city for more than a week.”
Agar said it took him some time to find his feet after retiring from professional tennis at the end of 2015.
“Then I stumbled across the Capalaba Tennis Centre.”
Agar said he hoped to rebuild the centre, promoting tennis as part of a healthy and active lifestyle.
“My main goal is to have people playing tennis as it’s a great sport,” Agar said.
Mentoring young players seeking to take the next step in their tennis career is also a passion.
“I am best suited to help players who are serious about their tennis and would like the opportunity to work with a professional player here in the Redlands.
“I have experience with that journey.”
