RUSSELL Island residents have found a car tipped over on its side in the car park at the ferry terminal.
Pictures of the car were first shared on social media about 8am on Wednesday.
Police said they had been trying to contact the registered owner of the car, but had been unsuccessful.
Island resident Vivien Fleming, who saw the car on Wednesday afternoon, said fuel had recently been stolen from her two cars near the Russell Island jetty.
The most recent incident occurred on Sunday night.
Ms Fleming has moved from Russell to Lamb Island, but works on Russell.
She said she had started to take precautions to park her car in a well lit area and with the fuel cap facing the road in an effort to prevent thefts.
The incidents on Russell Island come soon after Redland City Bulletin reported on criminals targeting cars parked near the Cleveland ferry terminal.
In response to those reports, Sergeant Mark Thomas, from Cleveland police station, said car owners could install lockable fuel caps as a preventative measure.
