REDLAND City Ukuleles – the RCUs as they are known – had an outstanding performance at the Kenilworth Tropulele Uke Festival.
Spokeswoman Cilla Wills said the community group had been performing for about six years at various festivals, including Spruke, Folk Redlands Ukulele Festival and Redlands Ukulele Festival.
They had also been guests of the Redland City Concert Bands.
“They are a group of enthusiasts who like to have fun with most genres of music, and are keen for new members to join them,’’ Ms Wills said.
“Led by Len and Karen Henderson of Binary Music in Cleveland, they rehearse twice a month on the second and fourth Thursday nights 7pm to 8.30pm in the Binary Studio.’’
The group will perform at this year’s Redlands Ukulele Festival on June 10 and 11.
“It will involve schools as well,’’ Ms Wills said. “It’s a terrific event.’’
Ms Henderson said the event would be held at the Binary store studio and at the Bloomfield Street park.
It would include jam sessions and solo artists.
“It’s the nature of the little instrument that it attracts a lot of people,’’ Ms Henderson said.
