THE Wynnum Manly Seagulls versus Tweed Heads Seagulls match played on North Stradbroke Island last month was Channel 9’s highest rated Intrust Super Cup match of the season so far.
Wynnum Manly Seagulls chief executive Hanan Laban said it was fantastic news that Channel 9 recorded 75,066 viewers across Queensland for the match played at Ron Stark Oval, Dunwich.
Organiser Joe Wood said the weekend was a huge success.
“Although we didn’t receive the weather we had hoped for on the Sunday, a determined crowd came to watch the game and through its broadcasting on Channel 9 – Deadly Choices, Stradbroke Island and the businesses which reside on the island will benefit from the fantastic exposure,’’ he said.
Mr Wood said the Saturday NRL development clinic involving both Intrust Super Cup sides provided many island children the chance to run with elite players.
“Deadly Choices also effectively utilised the Saturday to run a community day and their efforts helped to continue the promotion of important healthy lifestyle messages, particularly to those on the island,’’ he said.
“...The Deadly Choices curtain raiser game between the U12 Dunwich Darkies and the Tweed Heads All Blacks was a fantastic display of Indigenous culture, history and leadership.
“James Roberts, Jarahl Yow Yeh and Steve Renoufs’ assistance to both young sides – clearly inspired and motivated both young teams – providing each with an experience they will never forget.’’
