AHEAD of National Volunteer Week, nine Redlands volunteers have been recognised for their inspirational contribution to the community.
The volunteers were given certificates of recognition on Wednesday at a function organised by Volunteering Redlands.
The volunteers are Christine Bernacki and Bronwyn Bradford from Crime Stoppers, Bert Maynard and Irene Maynard from Bay FM, Rae Benning from Southern Moreton Bay Island Food Growers Group, Shirley Edwards from Cicada (for people with cochlear implants), Paul Jones from Redland Museum, Deb Myers from Calisto Park Equestrian Centre for Special Needs and Janine Mills from StarCare.
The volunteers, who were nominated by community organisations, will be entered into the annual Greg Cook Volunteer of the Year Award.
Chair of Volunteering Redlands Nectaria Chronopoulos thanked the volunteers for their contribution to the community.
“With the Greg Cook Recognition Award, we aim to acknowledge inspiring individuals who have gone above and beyond their call of duty and shown outstanding dedication,” she said.
“Volunteers are the backbone of our community.”
Ms Chronopoulos said National Volunteer Week from May 8 to 14 was an opportunity for everyone to recognise and honour volunteers who had improved the community through unwavering commitment and hard work.
The Greg Cook Award is organised by Volunteering Redlands recognises volunteers for their contributions.
The 2017 award ceremony will be held at the Volunteering Redlands International Volunteer Day Expo on December 2.
