REDLANDS Centre for Women has celebrated the launch of its In2Work program to help young women transition into work or further study.
The program is funded under the state government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative.
Attendees at the launch included Capalaba MP Don Brown, representing Training Minister Yvette D’Ath, Cleveland MP Mark Robinson, mayor Karen Williams and deputy mayor Wendy Boglary.
Project co-ordinator Kerri Long acknowledged the importance of partnerships with industry and training providers in delivering the program.
“Importantly I’d like to recognise the young women who have stepped up to participate in the program, helping themselves to get out there or back out there into the workforce and further contribute to our community,” she said.
“In turn, I’m sure some of them have the potential to become future leaders of our community.
“Many of these young women have overcome personal challenges and are also doing a fine job in the important role of raising their children.”
Ms Long said there were financial incentives for businesses who had the capacity to offer traineeships to anyone participating in Skilling Queenslanders for Work programs, including the one offered by Redlands Centre for Women.
The eight week program finishes on June 8 and will be followed by a second intake from July 20.
The group meets weekly from 1pm to 4pm at Redlands Centre for Women, 27 Waterloo Street, Cleveland.
