CANCER Council Queensland (CCQ) Redlands branch volunteers have once again proven their top recipe for fundraising success - coffee, pastries and cakes, with a good dash of community spirit.
About $7000 for the battle against cancer was raised at their third annual Mother’s Day morning tea, held at Victoria Point’s Renaissance Retirement Living on Wednesday, May 10.
While the effort was outstanding, CCQ chief executive Chris McMillan said she was not surprised.
She said the Redlands branch, which is comprised of up to 35 volunteers, were one of CCQ’s best fundraising groups and raised about $100,000 every year.

“It’s magic,” she said. “They are always outstanding with their effort.”
Event co-ordinator Carol Underwood said the Mother’s Day morning tea, which was hosted as part of Cancer Council’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, was always well patronised.
She said the 180 guests at this year’s fundraiser enjoyed delicious foods served by Carmel College students, a Louky Boutique fashion parade, entertainment by Vinyl Frenzy Duo, market stalls and raffle prize giveaways.
While the official date for Cancer Council’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is Thursday, May 25, events can be hosted any time this and next month.
