On Wednesday night, Redlands United saw off Capital One side UQFC in a 2-nil victory at St Lucia.
Coach Matt Chandler said he was happy to see his team go into the next round of the Westfield FFA Cup.
"It's always hard to play away from home in our first cup game,” Matt Chandler said.
“Our performance wasn't fantastic but we won and at the moment it's all about winning.
“They gave us a good game and had their chances but I thought we controlled the game much better in the second half," he said.
Redlands started the game strongly and were rewarded in the opening 10 minutes when Sam Roper set Alistair Davis to drill at the ball inside the near post. The Red Devils were the dominant side in the first half but as UQFC settled into the game a contest started to unfold.
It took until after halftime for the second goal to arrive when Davis got his head onto a cross and pushed the ball home.
On Saturday night, the Red Devils went down to Brisbane City 3-2 after a questionable penalty call that gave the home side the three points.
City started the game strongly, with two goals inside the opening 20 minutes but Redlands fought their way back into the game with goals from Alex Warrilow and Matt Ryan before halftime.
Redlands fought off a fiery Brisbane City in the second half with some remarkable goalkeeping from Denver Crickmore to keep his side in the game.
A contentious penalty call was made at the 89th minute when the referee called a handball after the ball hit Kai Halliday’s shoulder.
Matt Chandler was disappointed with the end result after his team played one of their best games so far this season.
“It’s the first time in a long time we stuck to a game plan,” Matt Chandler said.
“Half-time probably hurt us, I think if we played for another five minutes we would have scored.
“I hope we can win [against Roar] if we can put up a performance like that and do what we did I think we will get the three points that we need,” he said.
Redlands United are back at the Showgrounds on Friday 19 May as they take on Brisbane Roar Youth from 7 pm.
In the next round of the Westfield FFA Cup, Redlands faces Olympic FC at the Showgrounds in a mid-week clash.
