UPDATE
A SIGN that was in the middle of a footpath has been relocated.
A council officer said the sign was repositioned on the day Redland City Bulletin asked Redland City Council for comment.
A spokesperson for developer McKenzie Aged Care had said they were working closely with council on the development of the home.
“The footpath was constructed in accordance with the approved council plans,” she said.
The council officer said they were the developer’s plans that had been submitted to council, not council’s plans.
“Regardless of what the plans showed, it is obvious that building a footpath that has a sign in the middle of it is not in line with community expectations,” she said.

WHAT came first, the footpath or the sign?
In the case of the newly-built footpath at Bay Street, Cleveland, it was the sign.
Residents were astounded to find the walkway built around the sign indicating the roundabout at the intersection with Smith Street.
The footpath is in front of an aged care facility under construction.
A council spokesperson said a developer had built the footpath around the sign which had been put up previously.
“Council will seek the relocation of the sign as a matter or priority,” the spokesperson said.

“The footpath was constructed in accordance with the approved council plans,” she said.
Elderly resident Diane Weir, who lives nearby, said the footpath was built about 10 days ago in front of the facility.
“We have people in our village who don’t have very good eyesight,” she said.
“It’s very dangerous.”
She said the sign was also a concern for people on mobility scooters, pushing prams and walking dogs.
